More Common Sense from Famous People

A few years ago I met Jonathan Byrnes, a senior lecturer at MIT and long-time business consultant focused on profitability management. Since then, I have read his blogs and book, Islands of Profit in a Sea of Red Ink, and have had the privilege to consult with him on a client matter. His advice is practical, timely, and timeless.

I heartily recommend Jonathan's recent blog, featuring quotes from Walter Isaacson's biography of Steve Jobs. (I recently purchased the book, and thoroughly enjoyed it.) Jobs, never one to be shy about speaking his mind, has a great message for all of us. His comments remind me a lot of observations made by Bob Lutz in his latest book, Car Guys vs. Bean Counters.

Over the years, it has been interesting to me how easy it is for businesses - both large and small - to become distracted by so many urgent matters and inadvertently stop listening to their customers/clients and innovating new products and services. Can you think of something that needs your attention right now? Take the time to deal with it.

Seek. Climb. Lead.
