What Drives Us
I can confidently say that our clients are some of the most interesting and inspiring people in the world.
Getting to learn the full story of each client is one of our favorite parts of what we do.
We have so much respect for the incredible people we get to talk to. While many are now very successful, many of them were nothing of the sort just a few years prior. Through their own sweat and tears, hard-won lessons from mentors and bosses, a bit of luck, and the teams they’ve assembled, they have achieved great things.
For us, we feel like we have the opportunity to step in and co-author a critical chapter or two in our clients’ unwritten books. As such, we get a front row seat to watching business owners solve problems and create solutions.
In this post, I want to share just a few anonymized stories of real clients that leave us in awe.
A True Rags to Riches Story
First, we have a client who grew up in an extremely underresourced urban setting, so urban that a factory was located across the street from his childhood home.
He began working in that factory doing odd jobs as a small boy, already knowing he wanted a different life for himself. He’s never worked anywhere else, and it’s been about 50 years.
In that time period, he moved from errand boy, all the way up the ladder of the company to CEO. Driving the company’s transformation multiple times, and was the major force behind making the company what it is today.
Recently, he added the owner to his repertoire of titles, acquiring the business. Now he’s on a path to take the company to new heights.
When we met with him, it was remarkable to hear him talk about how he received no formal education and was driven in part by the desire to join a country club. This may sound frivolous, but it was a personal desire and goal that drove him, and we got to see the culmination of this story as we sat in the beautiful dining room of a private club where he was hosting us.
A Tale of Being Knocked Down, But Building Something Better
Another client of ours similarly skipped post-secondary education and jumped straight into the workforce. He became a certified master in a trade by his early 20’s and had more money than sense.
He built a company with a partner, but ultimately, the partnership, like many, ended over a business dispute. It felt like utter defeat.
But he licked his wounds, rebuilt his credit, and jumped back in a few years later. Not only did he jump back in, but he also came back stronger than ever and ended up building a powerhouse in an adjacent industry.
Despite that initial setback, he built financial independence for himself with his second business.
Now with Doescher Group at his side, we are helping him build a business far larger, more sound, and just plain better. Had he not gone through those hard knocks in his 20s, I’m not sure all of this would be possible.
The Leap that Changed The Whole Story
A client of ours grew up in a family business under the watchful eye of his siblings. He decided in time that he wanted to branch out on his own–a big departure from his family’s traditions, one that took courage and a thick skin. He teamed up with another owner who was older than he was, and when the time was right, he took a big leap and purchased the company from his boss, embarking on his own journey. He made huge changes in the business, and we were lucky enough to meet him at the moment he was considering “what’s next?”
With all the options in front of him, he chose to sell his business. We had the opportunity to walk him through this life-changing transaction as his CTO (“Chief Transaction Officer®”). The result was that he earned many multiples of what he paid for the business and secured multi-generational wealth for his family.
Conclusion
I have many more stories, but these are just a few. Again and again, our clients turn problems and setbacks into opportunities with grit, integrity, and perseverance.
Honestly, it’s great to get paid for this work, but there’s a part of me that would do this for free if I could.
It’s such an honor to serve our clients and get to come in and help them make the best possible strategic decisions at crucial moments. We are so lucky to help them achieve great outcomes for themselves, their families, their employees, and their communities.
If you could use a solid adviser to help your business navigate a critical stretch, make a high-stakes decision, or build the financial systems to reach the next level, we’d be honored to be in your corner.
